Some Sure Signs Your Lawn Needs Some TLC

Posted on July 30, 2021July 26, 2023

**Collaborative post**

If you have a lawn in your garden, you need to do all you can to take proper care of it. After all, it is one of the most important parts of the garden, if not the single most important of all. Generally, taking care of your lawn is a relatively simple affair, but there are occasionally things that do go wrong. It’s good to be aware of those, so you know what you should do in order to overcome those issues. In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the sure signs that your lawn might need a little bit of care and attention.

It’s Brown

Unless you have specifically planted a type of grass that is brown, having brown grass blades is never a good sign. Essentially, this normally means that the grass is dead, and that is obviously something you need to fix right away. The best way to do that is to overseed, which means to lay down new seed where the old grass is. You should then have new grass in no time, especially if you make a point of watering it thoroughly right at the start there. That should fix the problem ultimately.

You Can Pull Up Lots Of Grass

You shouldn’t generally be able to easily pull up entire sections of grass – if you can, that means that the grass is likely lacking in nutrition of some kind or another. This can happen with old grass, but the solution is thankfully quite simple. All you need to do is fertilize the lawn, which means laying down nutritious food for it. You can do this by hand for a smaller lawn, or you might want to use a fertilizer spreader otherwise. Find tips on using fertilizer spreaders here and then try at it – you’ll find it really works.

It’s A Strange Colour

If your lawn ever turns a strange colour that you wouldn’t expect it to be, that is likewise something that you need to think about and try to fix as soon as possible. The most likely culprit of a lawn being the wrong colour is a fungal disease. There is little you can do to prevent this, and once it happens it can easily and quickly cause you a lot of problems with your lawn, to the point where you might lose the lawn entirely. You will probably need to seek out professional help in order to fix this particular problem.

It Is Holding Water

If your lawn is holding a lot of water, that simply means that you are probably overwatering it. That can clearly be a big problem, so it’s something you are going to want to think about as you try to improve your lawn. Make sure that you are not watering it any more until it is fixed, and see if you can get the help of a professional gardener or landscaper to do it for you. That will often suffice in fixing the problem.
