When you have a home with an outdoor space, you want to make the most of every part of it. One thing that can stop you perhaps enjoying it as much as you might like to, is if you have children. While kids are undoubtedly fantastic, trying to share a space with them isn’t necessarily so good. There’s nothing like trying to sunbathe only to have footballs flying past your head and loud toys all scattered around you, blaring music and generally interrupting your peace. To stop this being an issue, you should work to make the space family-friendly but in a way that isn’t too imposing to any of you. In this article, we take a look at some top tips that can make this work. Keep on reading to find out more and get inspired.
Have different zones
One great way to make a family-friendly outdoor space is to have different zones. Ensure you mark out a place specifically where the kids can play – you could get a mini picket fence or line it out with paving stones. This is where the children are allowed to play and have their toys and can make as much mess with their things as they like. Then mark out the area – perhaps with decking – that is for adults. This is where things such as sun loungers, nice plants and an outdoor BBQ can go without you being concerned it will get ruined by the kids trying to play outside.
Invest in plenty of storage
When it comes to a family-friendly outdoor space, having plenty of storage is key. You want to have enough places that toys can be put away at the end of the day so they’re not littered everywhere. You could get a dedicated summer house or shed, or if you don’t have enough space, there are a myriad of outdoor storage containers you can invest in that you can keep organized and store all your children’s toys, lounger cushions and other bits in so it’s tidy.
Think of more hardy materials so they last
You want to create a space that is designed to last, particularly if you have young children. Think of things for your path or to decorate your flower beds such as decorative aggregates. You should get plants that are more hardy to year-round weather and not too expensive so if any balls get thrown at them it won’t be a big loss and they can be replaced or withstand accidental damage.
These are just a few things you can do that can help you to make a family-friendly outdoor space. There are so many benefits to having an outdoors for all the family and learning to enjoy it all together is key for making it work. What are some top tips you have for ensuring this is a success?
