Change Address without the Stress

Posted on January 28, 2020September 1, 2023

**Collaborative post**

Why does changing address need to be stressful? If you look into the research, we would see that most people describe the process of moving home as stressful as being made redundant – or even divorce. That said, moving home can and should be a really exciting period. The new move could mean a new job, better living space – a nice area and so much more.

In this article, we’re going to take a quick look at how you can change address and reduce your stress in the process!

Why do we get stressed?

According to research, over one-third of British Residents feel stressed for one full day weekly, with 85% of adults experiencing stress regularly. Moving home can be stressful for many reasons. For instance, there are so many priorities to balance. You need to tell everyone you’re moving home, organise the entire move, pay attention to when everything needs to be done. There can also be financial worries baked in there.

And when it comes to getting stressed-out or burnt-out it can all happen ‘at once’. The good news? With a little bit of preparation and though in advance you can significantly reduce the stressfulness of the experience, and enjoy the home move for what it should be- fun!

Keep Organised

One of the keys to getting ahead of your home move is staying organised. This is where planning comes into play. One of the first things to do here is to check-out a moving home checklist and diarise all of the key dates for your move. This ranges from move-in dates, what services you’ll need to purchase and when.

If everything is written down and planned, you’re less likely to become stressed due to the work volume. Diarising everything breaks it up into ‘workable chunks’ that create more time for you to enjoy the home move.

Save Time & Money

There are lots of ways to reduce your costs and time when moving home. They’re great because the more time and money we have to spare the smoother the home move will be. There is a rise in exciting new technologies and services. Take SlothMove for example, a service where you can tell everyone you’re moving at the same time – you can change address on driving licence and everything.

You can also save money by negotiating more on the products and services you buy. It seems obvious, but as they say, 80% of negotiation is just asking the question

When Moving Home, Take Time for Yourself

Taking personal time during a home move is probably one of the most understated activities. And it’s surprising because it’s so important. We are so pre-occupied with making sure that we get everything done that we don’t take a moment for ourselves to actually re-cooperate and take the moment in.

The issue is that there is a perennial list of activities for us to do – it’s endless. Even once we’ve moved in, there’s so much work to be done in terms of decorating and the like.

Practically, we can improve our home moving experience by finding time every week to detach and do something else. That could be taking the Saturday evening off, or just having a great day out and forgetting about the move.

Enjoy Your Move

With these tips in mind, you will have some actionable and practical steps you can implement to make your home move less stressful. Even if you take just one of these into account during your move you should see a noticeable difference in your home moving experience. We hope you’ve found them helpful and look forward to you sharing how you have got on.
